All METAR Lights use LED chips that have a life expectancy of 20,000-50,000 hours or about 5-10 years of continuous use. After this time the lights may fade. Staring with version 3 it is possible for consumers to replace the LED light modules on their own. The hardware version is shown on the label on the bottom of the base. If your version is HW3 or greater you easily replace the LED module if it starts to fade or fails. 

If you have a METAR Light with an older hardware version you can contact customer support to arrange to send your light in for an upgrade to version 3. The cost of this service is $100. The service includes an extra LED module with your upgraded light and return shipping.
